Our Focus on Talent

Investing in our employees and developing talent are key parts of our community bank culture. Activities in 2021 included:

Tuition Reimbursement: We support our employees’ efforts to continue their formal education.


Retail Career Path Program: Our retail branch employees have clear opportunities for advancement in our Retail Career Path program. Commencing in July 2018, this program has 7 milestones with clear expectations, learning opportunities and established compensation plans to include 4 promotions. To date we’ve had 219 participants in the career path program with 219 achieving milestone 1, 203 completing milestone 2, 55 completing milestone 3, 45 completing milestone 4, 6 completing milestone 5, and 5 completing milestone 6.


Internships: In 2018, we launched our paid Internship Program. We have had 19 interns complete this program to date. Each intern was assigned to a department that aligned with their educational and professional interests, working on projects, and providing support for a 12-week period. Each group also completed a company-assigned project that they presented to the Executive Leadership Team for considerations and possible implementation. Our nine interns for the 2022 summer program started in May.

Family Scholarship: In an effort to support the education of our employees’ children, we offer the Loren C. Adgate scholarship. In the 2021 and 2022 calendar years, we awarded six $2,500 scholarships for a total of $15,000 to proud parents of college students.


Competitive Compensation and Benefits: We support our employees with a competitive total rewards packages that centers around improving the quality of life, financial health and our employees’ wellness.

 

Leadership and training programs: We support our employees with a wide range of training and leadership development opportunities to support continuous growth, build stronger teams, promote career advancement and ensure we have a positive work environment. We provide both internal leadership and external leadership development programs, external leadership coaching, access to both the Perry School of Banking and Graduate School of Banking, and also partner the Michigan Bankers Association to provide other enriching leadership development opportunities.
