An overdraft occurs when your available account balance is not sufficient to cover a transaction.

 

Ways to avoid overdrafts


We understand that overdrafts can happen, but here are a few tips to help keep track of your balance and avoid them:

Set up notifications and alerts in One Wallet to keep up with deposits, withdrawals, and recent transactions.

Pay special attention to delayed charges like gas, hotels, restaurant tips, and rental cars. It often takes a few days for the final amount to go through.


Overdraft options to fit your needs

At Independent Bank, we understand that life is full of surprises, and financial needs can arise when least expected. To help you navigate these situations with ease, we offer a range of overdraft services. With our solutions, you can gain financial peace of mind, avoid unnecessary fees, and stay in control of your finances.

Overdraft Privilege

 

Included with our ONE Account and all business checking options, is overdraft coverage for checks and recurring payments (such as ACH transactions and bill pay) when sufficient funds are not available.

The cost is $34 per transaction and an additional fee of $6 per day after the fifth consecutive business day of the account being overdrawn. For new accounts, we offer an introductory limit of $100 for the first 30 calendar days, and after that, eligible personal accounts can access up to $600, while eligible business accounts can access up to $1,000.

Overdraft Protection Personal Line of Credit

 

For consumer accounts, our Overdraft Protection Personal Line of Credit offers an added layer of financial security. Subject to credit approval, interest, and an annual fee, this service automatically transfers funds from a line of credit at Independent Bank to cover overdrafts in your checking account. Rest easy, knowing you have a safety net during unforeseen situations.

Extended Coverage

 

Our Extended Coverage option is designed to provide you with the convenience of authorizing and paying overdrafts for ATM and everyday debit card transactions.

Advanced Overdraft


With the Independent Bank Advanced Overdraft option, you pay a $10 monthly fee per enrolled account to cover up to two overdraft fees. Enroll in this service, and we'll refund you up to two overdraft or return item fees per calendar month (total of up to $68.00/month). The statement cycle falls on the last business day of each month. Please note that the rebate does not cover daily overdraft fees or other account service charges.

Independent Bank Advanced Overdraft is only available for new ONE Accounts and is unavailable for Opportunity ONE Accounts.

Overdraft Transfer Link

Want a seamless solution to avoid overdrafts? Our Overdraft Transfer Link service automatically transfers funds from another account at Independent Bank when shortfalls occur in your checking account. This service is offered for personal accounts at no additional cost, and to business accounts for a $7 fee per transaction. Enrollment happens after account opening in ONE Wallet online and mobile banking.

With Overdraft Transfer Link, you can link a qualifying deposit account to another qualifying deposit account you own at Independent Bank. Should your protected account become overdrawn and funds are available in your linked account, the amount required to bring your account back to $0.00 will be transferred to your protected account. If your linked account does not have the required funds to cover the entire overdraft, all available funds in the linked account will be transferred, and a $34.00 overdraft fee will be assessed per item.

If you prefer a fee-free overdraft solution, our Opportunity ONE account is the perfect choice. With Opportunity ONE, you'll never be charged overdraft fees. This free account is Bank On-certified, offering you a hassle-free and transparent banking experience.
