Independent Bank's PeoplePay

Convenient cash – send money electronically with PeoplePay

PeoplePayTired of wasting time and paper, and waiting for snail mail to send a check? Now you can send money directly to anyone—for free!—straight from your bank account. Independent Bank’s PeoplePay online banking feature allows customers to send money to anyone without writing a check or stopping at the ATM. “It’s a secure way of paying people without having cash or visiting a branch,” says Cara Brownell, Deposit Operations for Independent Bank.

Here’s what you do: Log into Online Banking for your Independent Bank checking account, enroll in PeoplePay, and link your checking account to the service. Then, when you want to send someone money—whether it’s for concert tickets or to pay a friend back for dinner—go online and choose the option that works best for you. You can also use PeoplePay to deposit money directly to a PayPal account or to the receiver’s bank account if you have the routing and bank account numbers. And best of all, you can send money to anyone—regardless of where that person banks.

Here’s what happens: Once the user receives the email or text, he or she decides how to claim the money. A bank account and PayPal are options for depositing the cash. Once the payment is claimed, it takes one to three business days for the money to be deposited into the receiver’s account of choice. Payments not claimed within 10 days will expire, and you can even cancel a payment before it’s been claimed. You can also receive money from others using PeoplePay. “It’s free. It’s easy. It’s convenient. It’s quick,” says Brownell.
