Independent Bank was honored June 9, 2026, by the SBA Michigan District Office as a Top 10 Lender for its outstanding contributions and support of Michigan’s small business community during fiscal year 2025. The recognition was presented at the annual Michigan Lender Awards Ceremony at Washtenaw Community College in Ann Arbor.

“Small businesses are essential to the strength of our communities and the broader economy, and Independent Bank is committed to helping entrepreneurs secure the financing they need to move their plans forward,” said Cindy Wichern, Vice President, Lending Solutions Manager at Independent Bank. “Our Preferred Lender status reflects the experience of our team and allows us to provide a more efficient lending process while delivering the personal guidance business owners deserve.”

During fiscal year 2025, the SBA delivered $1.3 billion in financing through 2,867 loans across its programs to Michigan small business owners. Independent Bank was one of 10 financial institutions recognized for SBA loan volume within the state.

Independent Bank offers SBA financing for a variety of business purposes, including purchasing or improving commercial real estate, acquiring a business, purchasing equipment, refinancing eligible debt and supporting working capital needs. Its SBA lending capabilities include 7(a), 7(a) Small Loan, SBA Express, Export Express, CAPLines and international trade loan programs.

“Every business has a different story, and SBA financing can provide flexible options for borrowers whose needs may not fit within conventional lending structures,” Wichern said. “Whether an owner is preparing to acquire a business, expand operations, invest in equipment or purchase real estate, our team takes the time to understand the opportunity and help determine an appropriate financing path.”
