We’re currently transitioning from Visa to MasterCard. During June and July, we’ll have some customers with Visa debit cards and some with Debit MasterCards. We’ll be communicating with all customers so you’ll know when you’re getting a new card, how to activate it, and what your new benefits will be. The process should be seamless, but we’re always here to answer your debit card transition questions.
With Debit MasterCards, you get MasterCard security and benefits, plus the same great Independent Bank service we always offer.
Below are descriptions of our Debit MasterCards. If you’re a current customer, we’re replacing all personal debit cards, business debit cards, equity access cards (home equity line of credit), and Visa health savings cards. If you have any of these Visa products, you’ll be receiving a new MasterCard by the end of July. If you’re a new debit customer (after June 2), you will receive a MasterCard debit product because we are no longer issuing new Visa cards.
Your Independent Bank Visa credit card will NOT be replaced by a MasterCard, because Visa will still be providing those products.

Within 60 days of purchase of a new item, Price Protection provides a refund for the difference between the price you pay with your card and any advertised lower price. If you have a World Debit MasterCard, your timeframe is 120 days.
If you become dissatisfied with a product you purchase using your eligible MasterCard card within 60 days of purchase, and the store will not accept a return, you may be eligible for a refund for the cost of the product up to $250.

Purchase Assurance®** (World Debit MasterCard only)
Provides coverage against theft of or damage to most new items purchased with your eligible card up to 90 days from the date of purchase.
Identity Theft Resolution** (World Debit MasterCard only)
If someone attempts to steal your identity, Identity Theft Resolution with Wallet Protection** can help you resolve the situation promptly. You get an ID Theft Affidavit and an ID Theft Resolution Kit as well as access to a number of services, including credit bureau notification. You also have access to a 24-hour provider who will lock out all of your reported cards and documents, and, if needed, the provider can coordinate a conference call with your card issuer.
We offer a free, easy way to protect your account when you make online purchases. It's called MasterCard SecureCode, and it's a code you must enter to verify your identity every time you make an online purchase. To sign up or get more information, click the MasterCard SecureCode link.
Lost or stolen card?
If your ATM/ debit card is lost or stolen, call 888.300.3193 at any time, 24/7.
- If you know your card number, use the automated system. If you don’t know your card number, a representative will be happy to help.
- If you have additional questions, customer service representatives are also available Monday – Saturday from 8 am – 6 pm (EST) and Sunday from 10 am – 8 pm (EST).
- You may also visit any Independent Bank branch office to report your missing card. Our banking associates will be happy to assist you. Click here to find the nearest location.
We’re transitioning our debit cards to MasterCard so we can better serve you. Through our partnership with MasterCard, we can provide more benefits and services to make your debit card do more for you. It has the same Zero Liability protection that you depend on, plus extra perks such as Extended Warranty Insurance and Price Protection. You can even put more money back in your pocket by signing up for the Fuel Rewards program, which gives you discounts on your fuel purchases at Shell gas stations.
We’ll be transitioning all debit cards to MasterCard between May and July, and we’ll ensure it’s an easy transition by communicating with you and answering all your questions.
We’ll mail you a notice a few weeks before you receive your new card. Your card will arrive with a Guide to Benefits that has all the details about card benefits and services.
To activate your new card:
- Perform a PIN-based transaction at an ATM or merchant
- Call our 24-hour telephone banking at 1.888.300.3193.
All personal debit, business debit, equity access (home equity line of credit), and health savings Visa cards will be replaced by Independent Bank MasterCards. If you have an Independent Bank Visa Credit Card it will not change.

Your new card offers ATM access using the same PIN as before, plus acceptance for purchases at millions of locations where MasterCard is accepted.
Yes. Each checking account that has a debit card attached will be reissued the new and improved MasterCard Debit Card.
The dispute process will stay the same. MasterCard provides Zero Liability, just like Visa does. So if you see any unauthorized charges on your account, whether they’re tied to your current Visa card or your new MasterCard, we’ll help walk you through the process as we always have.
Yes, if you currently have a PIN assigned to your existing card, it will remain unchanged for your convenience. You can also change your PIN whenever you wish. This can be done through 24/7 telephone banking, at an ATM or in the branch.
Your card will have a new number. If you have recurring or automatic payments set up on your Visa debit card, please contact those merchants with your new card number and expiration date to ensure continuous service.
