Gracious Grounds announced that construction has begun on Ability Way, a new 77-unit, 67,167-square-foot affordable housing community that will expand independent living opportunities for adults with intellectual disabilities. When completed in early 2027, Ability Way will increase Gracious Grounds’ capacity from 50 to 86 residents, strengthening its commitment to creating communities where adults can experience supported independence, continue building the skills needed for daily life, and live with dignity.
“Ability Way reflects our belief that adults with intellectual disabilities deserve access to affordable housing where they can continue to grow, strengthen their independence, and be part of a supportive community,” said Matt Lehr, Executive Director of Gracious Grounds. “We are deeply grateful for Independent Bank’s partnership in making construction possible and for Reenders Inc., whose leadership in the building process has been pivotal in bringing Ability Way to life.”
“Independent Bank is grateful for the opportunity to support Gracious Grounds and their Ability Way affordable housing development, which will create a community of connection for the residents,” said Jason Blain, Senior Commercial Banker at Independent Bank. “We congratulate the Gracious Grounds organization on reaching this important milestone in the journey to develop Ability Way.”
The groundbreaking ceremony took place on December 18 at 2 PM at 16941 Ability Way, Grand Haven. Remarks were shared by Gracious Grounds leadership and Independent Bank. Local officials, supporters, and members of the public were invited to attend.
Construction is scheduled for completion during the first quarter of 2027.
