September 9, 2013

Prize wheel, $250 Visa gift card giveaway, refreshments and artist performance

Independent Bank’s Monroe Center office will be hosting an opening night ArtPrize reception on September 18 at 6 pm. The bank is a venue for the art competition and will display the work of eight artists.

Independent Bank is one of many local businesses hosting artists during the competition. During the opening night reception, visitors can enjoy refreshments from 6 pm to 10 pm while viewing the artwork. Featured artwork includes paintings and 3D visual art.

This year, Independent Bank will feature a $250 Visa® gift card giveaway as well as a prize wheel that can be spun by signing up for the bank’s eNewsletter, “IB Headlines.” Prizes include coffee mugs, playing cards, water bottles and more.

Bob Burghdoff, an ArtPrize artist, will be featured along with his band, from 8 – 9 pm during the opening night festivities. Burghdoff, age 86, will be performing using his entry for the competition this year, which is a violin constructed of 6,000 wooden matchsticks. He was inducted into the Michigan Fiddlers Hall of Fame in 2002.

Following the opening night, visitors are welcome to visit the bank to view the art during normal business hours from 5:30 pm to 8 pm, Monday through Thursday; 12 pm to 10 pm, Friday and Saturday; and from 12 pm to 6 pm on Sunday. Opening week hours starting Wednesday, September 18 through Friday, September 20, the venue will be open from 5:30 pm to 10 pm.

ArtPrize kicks off Wednesday, September 18 at 6 pm in Grand Rapids. ArtPrize is an open art competition, giving away the world's largest art prize of $200,000 awarded by public vote. Part arts festival, part social experiment, this international contest is decided solely on a public vote. Anyone can enter their art in the competition.
