At Independent Bank, the privacy of business communication is important to us. We want to ensure your information stays private.
To protect your information, all email communication you receive from Independent Bank containing personally identifiable financial information will be secured through ZixCorp encryption services. This encryption service is an easy-to-use email protection that makes it easy for you to receive, read and reply to all our encrypted communications.
Why secure email?
Internet email is inherently an insecure communications channel. Messages sent via standard Internet email travel in “plain text” and cross many networks before reaching their final destination. As a result, an opportunity exists for prying eyes to eavesdrop on email messages as they travel through these various networks. Since confidentiality cannot be guaranteed, standard Internet email should not be used to exchange sensitive or private information such as social security numbers, bank account numbers and financial statements.
How secure email works
When an Independent Bank associate sends you a secure email message, the message is sent to a secure data center where it’s held for you to retrieve. A notification message is sent to inform you that a secure message is waiting to be retrieved. The notification message you receive will contain a link to the Independent Bank secure portal. Simply select the link, log into the secure Web site and retrieve your message.
Creating your account
The first time the secure email portal is accessed, you will be prompted to create an account. Simply supply your email address and password to establish your account. You will use this password each time you log into the Independent Bank secure email portal. A confirmation message will be sent to the email address you entered. To complete the account set up process, click the link in the confirmation email. You may now begin using your Independent Bank secure email portal account.
When Independent Bank sends you a secure email message, you will receive a notification message via standard Internet email.
- To retrieve the email, click the link contained in the notification message.
- When the login screen appears, you will be prompted to enter your email address and password that you established.
- Once logged in, you can read your secure message, download it to your computer or send a secure reply message.
To send a secure message to the Independent Bank:
- Click on any secure message link from the Independent Bank Web site.
- When the login screen appears, it will prompt you to enter your email address and password that you established.
- Once logged in, you can create a new secure message by clicking on the “Compose” tab.
