Independent Bank recognized Sarah Carlson and Conor Bradley as the 2013 Newaygo High School Athletes of the Year. As a recipient of this honor, Sarah and Conor have each been awarded a $500 academic scholarship from Independent Bank.

The Athlete of the Year program recognizes excellence in the areas of scholarship, citizenship, leadership and athletic participation.

“The Athlete of the Year scholarship program is our way of supporting Newaygo schools and fostering education in the community,” said Jim Badgero, vice president of community banking at Independent Bank. “I commend Conor and Sarah for their accomplishments and wish them well as they continue their studies.”

Sarah is a 2013 graduate of Newaygo High School, where she played basketball for the past four years. As the team captain, she was said to be well respected by her teammates. Off the court, she is active in her church youth group and girls basketball youth camps. She is also involved in soccer and motocross.

Conor is also a 2013 graduate of Newaygo High School, where he played basketball for four years. He has been a three-year starter on varsity and led the team in scoring and rebounding this year. He is also a member of the National Honor Society.
