Independent Bank participated in the annual Relay For Life at North Rockford Middle School on May 18, 2012. The relay team consisted of associates from several local offices including Rockford, Grand Rapids and Cedar Springs. It is the tenth year the bank has participated in the relay.
Cheryl Koster, banking office manager for the Rockford office, was recognized with the Relay Champion Award for taking an active role in the relay for the past 10 years, helping the American Cancer Society by volunteering for “Bank Day” and for volunteering at the cash booth during the relay.
The team, Banking on a Cure, wore yellow shirts to show support for bladder cancer, and several volunteers walked for the entire 24-hour relay. Leading up to the event, the team held several fundraisers and raised over $4,300 before the relay began. In addition to hosting a silent auction, the team participated in a variety of fundraising activities throughout the 24-hour walk and raised over $9,100 for the event.
