Celebrate Michigan with Independent Bank
May 01, 2009
Independent Bank offices statewide plan celebrations highlighting Michigan’s local communities.
Independent Bank associates around the state will kick off Michigan Week Friday, May 1. A day of celebration is planned for the bank’s Big Day, an event that marks a new gift cycle in the bank’s Tell-A-Friend gift program. Through the program, anyone who opens a new Independent Bank checking account, as well as current customers who make referrals that result in checking account openings, will receive a free gift. On May 1, the Black and Decker™ One Touch Chopper will be introduced as the new gift.
To support the State of Michigan’s Michigan Week, each of Independent Bank’s more than 100 offices will create customized celebrations to highlight their local communities. Michigan Week, which takes place May 16 – 22, is an annual tribute to the best of the Great Lakes State. Michigan Week was started in 1954 as a way to promote state pride among citizens and to celebrate Michigan’s rich heritage and unique features.
Independent Bank associates will celebrate what makes Michigan great through various events and activities. Activities vary from location to location. Examples include inviting customers to participate in trivia games about local landmarks, highlighting favorite Michigan vacation spots, partnering with local historical societies to display historic photographs and artifacts, supplying samples of Michigan food products, supporting local merchants and celebrating Michigan festivals.
“There are so many things to celebrate about Michigan,” said Kelly Wolgamott, assistant vice president of HPC marketing for Independent Bank. “We hope this Big Day will remind people about positive things that are happening in the state. Supporting our state has been a major focus for us, so this event is something our associates are excited about.”
Tying the Michigan Week theme in with the current gift, associates will hand out bookmarks that contain Michigan trivia questions and answers, as well as recipes for Michigan tomato salsa and Michigan apple salsa.
On May 1, visitors can also register to win either a subscription to Michigan History magazine or a subscription Michigan History for Kids magazine. There will be winners in each of the bank’s seven geographic regions.
