Money Smart Week – building money skills and relationships

This spring Independent Bank will be helping people in Michigan communities enhance their financial literacy through Money Smart, a training program aimed to aid adults outside the financial mainstream sharpen their money management skills and create positive banking relationships.

The Money Smart Week initiative was developed to increase financial literacy and provide education to consumers. During the week of April 20 – 26, a variety of seminars and events will be held to educate people in personal finance. The more they know about credit and banking services, the more likely they are to save, buy homes and improve their financial health. The Money Smart curriculum focuses on building financial knowledge, developing financial confidence and using banking services effectively.

Departments and banking offices will be working with their communities to deliver financial education. Examples of the modules include:

  • Bank on It – Borrowing Basics
  • Keep it Safe – Check it Out
  • To Your Credit – Money Matters
  • Charge it Right – Loan to Own
  • Your Own Home – Pay Yourself First
